Biography

Tony Kitous is founder of Levant Group, which includes Comptoir Libanais, specialising in Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine. From an early age, Tony showed his hospitality flair selling homemade sandwiches and lemonades to hungry football fans outside a local stadium for pocket money. Aged 18, Tony came to London for a holiday but has been here ever since, having opened his first restaurant in 1993, aged just 22. In 2000 he opened Levant which was the start of his crusade to promote the best in Middle Eastern culture, cuisine and hospitality in the UK. The dream was always to open a simple Lebanese canteen, offering healthy, fresh and affordable mezze and grills for everyone. The first Comptoir Libanais opened in 2008 and is Tony’s main focus. Other brands include premium restaurants Levant and Kenza and Tony’s newest concept, Shawa, selling Lebanese shawarma wraps. Whilst building one of the largest Lebanese restaurant groups in the UK, Tony’s found the time to write cookbooks and appear on various TV and radio shows. Tony’s regarded as having put the glamour into Middle Eastern cuisine and is passionate in his quest to showcase how wonderful his culture and food are. Together with his business partner and CEO, Chaker Hanna, they are working hard at spreading the love for food and Lebanese culture in the UK and internationally.

“My dream is to make Lebanese food become as popular as Italian food.”
