In a career spanning over 20 years Neil has gained extensive experience of front line retail and retail property management. Neil’s time in retail coincided with the surge of online retailing and witnessed first-hand the transition from traditional bricks and mortar to omnichannel retailing. Whilst working in the retail property industry Neil has been heavily involved in the evolution of shopping centres from purely retail, to the mixed-use lifestyle destinations that the modern consumer demands today.
Currently Centre Manager of Whiteley, Hampshire, a retail and leisure scheme launched in 2013, extended in 2015 and in planning for a further expansion in 2018. Jointly owned by British Land and USS, Whiteley is an award-winning scheme receiving a Revo Gold Award Commendation for new centre, Retail Week Award Commendation for Retail Destination of the Year, ICSC winner of new medium size retail development and Revo Gold Award shortlisted for Catering & Leisure Destination of the year.
Recently Neil has been working with British Land to develop click and collect solutions, Apps and Augmented Reality initiatives. The aims of these pilot programmes are to improve customer experience, encourage repeat visits and to enhance customer engagement as shopping centres continue to evolve their customer focused technology strategies.
Whilst working for over a decade within M&S and Debenhams Neil was involved with new store openings, refurbishments and rebranding of stores brought into the Debenhams portfolio. During a transformational period for retailers Neil experienced the explosion of online retail, the rapid development of retailer web businesses, and the cultural shift towards social media and reliance on mobile technology.
